Reflecting on Feedback

For my peer review I did not receive much feed back, but I decided that I would make some final changes myself. I decided that I would try to put more figurative language into my writing. My poems expressed frustration and some talked about over coming them. I talked about situations with friendships that happen in everyday life. Tyesha stated that I could use more imagery in my writing, so I decided that the vague pictures that I did make I would make them more descriptive. Tyesha also stated how she liked the fact that in my poem I was talking about how I wasn’t going to let anyone steal my joy from me. I was trying not to put a lot of anger and frustration in my work, but that’s what poetry is all about.  Carmen was another peer reviewer and she stated that I should use punctuation in my poetry. I thought it was a good idea for some of my poems but not all of them because I wanted a lot of them to just flow and keep going.

Reflecting on My Found Poem

Creating my found poem was sort of fun.  I had to cut out words out of different magazine articles. At first I was trying to figure out if I wanted my poem to be about war in the world or war in my community. I finally decided that I would talk about the negative problems in my community. After I was finish cutting out all of my words, it was hard to begin my poem. I had to put the words together and make my poem make sense. This was sort of fun, but a little more difficult than I expected.

Final Project Proposal

Final Project Proposal

My final project will be a chap book of all of my wonderful and unique poems. My chap book will have a lot of urban and teenage problems. I am interested in problems that other teenagers have in their everyday lives. My chap book will also have poems about the problems in urban neighborhoods, such as mine. One of my poems will talk about the difficulties and successes someone may have being a teen parent. I will describe and tell these stories from my own point of view, and from others that have told me stories. My chap book will have a lot of meaning, especially to me, because most of the things I will talk about emotionally affect me as a person. As I tell my stories through poetry I would hope that these will affect my reader(s) in some way. The main reason for me choosing poetry is because I find poetry one of the best ways to express myself. I love music and have loved it ever since I can remember, and poetry is just another form of music. Poetry relaxes the mind, body and soul. Writing and listening to poetry is my comfort zone. Usually people just go through their problems and don’t have anything to calm their mind. After reading my poems I hope that someone will look at life through a different perspective and maybe find answers to some of the questions they might’ve had before reading my chap book. Numerous people don’t like poetry and think that it has no point, but as a writer I feel that they should know that any writing has a point no matter how dumb it may look. The message that my chap book will convey will be that no matter where you are from, or where you have been, you can become successful in life.

My Goals For This Class

My Goals for this class

I have many goals for this class, but the biggest one is passing. I expect to learn new writing skills as well as techniques. I expect to have fun while learning. After this Creative Writing class is over, I plan on being a better writer and peer editor. I do not expect for this class to be difficult. I have never had a writing class like this before and I hope that the first experience will be a good one.

Creating My Nonsense Poem

Creating My Nonsense Poem

Creating a nonsense poem was fun and easy. I really enjoyed not only the concept of trying something new, but using unique words and giving them my own meaning. At first I thought that creating this poem was going to be hard and stressful. The title, Nonsense Poem, was even new to me. As I scrambled through the dictionary to find new words, I realized that words are really powerful and distinctive. As a writer, you are able to give words your own meaning.

My nonsense poem was entitled Peanut Butter With No Jelly. My poem was basically about someone’s thoughts and feelings about losing a friend who has moved away. Before I figured out exactly what words I was going to use for my nonsense poem I had already wanted to write a poem about losing a friend. As you read my poem you realize that the title is a metaphor of what the poem is really about. The words that I used don’t make sense, grammatically, but you can give them your own meanin

Fairy Tale Proposal

My fairy tale will be about a superhero that is going to kill the monster that tries to resurrect the Willie Lynch Theory. The monster has a negative attitude about everything positive that is going on in the world, and he tries to make it bad. He not only tries to separate the light and dark skinned people, but even adults and children. The superhero will go through a lot of obstacles and will eventually defeat the monster, but she will have to recuperate. There is even going to be a time when the superhero wants to give up. The people will come together and the monster will no longer be able to brain wash the citizens. The world will become better and everything and everyone wil become positive. The literary devices and which ones I am going to use have not been figured out. The setting, plot or theme of the story hasn’t  been figured out either. It will take time to put everything together but it will be a great  fairy tale!
